These paintings are intended to be primarily phenomenal or retinal. Color and light are very important aspects of the paintings, as well as the suggestion of spatial/perceptual indeterminacy. The paintings are meant to reveal evidence of the "hand" as well as the intimation of other processes. They incorporate a particular type of light and expansiveness which refers, not only to Modernist depictions of the Sublime, but which also seeks to question the source of the Sublime as a natural landscape versus a cultural one.
